Bridge Plates on Martin Guitars

Some of the earliest Stauffer Style Martins with ladder bracing had rectangular maple bridge plates, while some had no bridge plates at all, even with pin style bridges.

Early fan braced Martins also sometimes had rectangular maple bridge plates.

Early X braced Martins had thin mahogany bridge plates with tapered ends.

Some of the earliest experimental X braced guitars have bridge plates with ends which are tucked into the braces.

By later in the 19th Century, Martins once again had rectangular maple bridge plates, with ends cut to tuck into the braces.
